We convert the car into cash, which becomes a welcome donation to WBUR, and you are entitled to a tax deduction. We take vehicles in any condition, running or not, virtually anywhere in the U.S., and you avoid the cost and hassle of repairing or selling a car you no longer want.Is there any cost? No. There is no cost to the donor or to WBUR, ever.Do you accept any vehicle, anywhere?Yes, we accept cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, and RVs, running or not, no smog certificate is necessary. We pick up vehicles anywhere in the country, with very few exceptions. How much work is it for me?It’s easy to donate a vehicle, either online or by phone, 1 (877) 928-7227. You fill out a few forms, and you mail in the paperwork, including the title in states requiring one. You will receive a call from our tow service to arrange a convenient time and location for the pick-up. You do not need to be there. How long until my vehicle is picked up?We schedule a pick-up time that is convenient for you – usually within two to four days of receipt of your title. Call 1 (877) 928-7227 and let them know. What will happen to my car?Your car is assessed for the used-car market that will yield the best sale price, joining some forty-three million other cars re-sold each year. Most vehicles are sold through wholesale auctions; older, damaged and problem vehicles are often sold directly to dismantlers or recyclers for valuable parts and metals.Because we work with a very large national network of auction yards, we match your vehicle to the appropriate buyer. For example, recently we took a donor’s 1972 Porsche 911 to a premium car auction, where it netted five figures for a local public radio station. Meanwhile, a donor’s 1991 GMC Jimmy turned into a welcome $110 for another station. Will I receive a tax deduction? You are entitled to deduct the sales price of your vehicle and, if it sells for less than $500, the fair market value of the vehicle. You benefit from being able to reduce your taxable income when taxes are itemized. (See Tax Information for more information.) We provide you with a sales receipt or IRS Form 1098C.What if I have title issues? If you don’t have, can’t find or have problems with your vehicle title, call Donor Services at 1 (877) 928-7227. Our call center staff are experts in solving these matters. How much money goes to the WBUR?About the same amount that an auto dealer will realize if it takes the car as a trade-in and converts it to cash. We deduct the actual costs of towing, auctioning, title transfer and handling, and send the net proceeds to the WBUR.How do I check on the status of my car or get other answers?Call 1 (877) 928-7227 weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., EST; Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST.Who operates the WBUR Vehicle Donation Program?Vehicle Donation to Any Charity, LLC (V-DAC), a fund-raising counsel, runs the WBUR Vehicle Donation Program.
